AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda

AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda is an unconventional biography about the Hindu Swami who brought yoga and meditation to the West in the 1920s. Paramahansa Yogananda authored the spiritual classic “Autobiography of a Yogi,” which has sold millions of copies worldwide and is a go-to book for seekers, philosophers and yoga enthusiasts today. (Apparently, it was the only book that Steve Jobs had on his iPad.)

By personalizing his own quest for enlightenment and sharing his struggles along the path, Yogananda made ancient Vedic teachings accessible to a modern audience, attracting many followers and inspiring the millions who practice yoga today. Filmed over three years with the participation of 30 countries around the world, the documentary examines the world of yoga, modern and ancient, east and west and explores why millions today have turned their attention inwards, bucking the limitations of the material world in pursuit of self-realization. Archival material from the life of Yogananda (who died in 1952) creates a spine for the narrative, but the film stretches the dimensions of a standard biography.

The footage includes stylized interviews, metaphoric imagery and recreations, taking us from holy pilgrimages in India to Harvard’s Divinity School and its cutting-edge physics labs, from the Center for Science and Spirituality at the University of Pennsylvania to the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California. By evoking the journey of the soul as it pushes its way through the oppression of the human ego and delusion of the material world, the film creates an experiential immersion into the unseen realms. AWAKE is ultimately the story of humanity itself: the universal struggle of all beings to free themselves from suffering and to seek lasting happiness. “Using a seamless mix of re-creations and fascinating true footage, this very even-tempered documentary takes its audience all the way through a saint’s life, from his first sensations in the womb to that moment in 1952 when, having recited a poem to a large crowd at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, he exited his body just like that….In between those events he changed the Western world.”

Do you often feel exhausted, turned-off, and depleted at the end of the day? If so, then I hope you’ll join me for this mini-workshop on the importance of pleasure in a woman’s life!

Together, we will: Discover why pleasure is such an essential ingredient to a woman’s radiance and magnetism. Begin to honor and prioritize your relationship to your own pleasure. Prepare For Aging: Inspiring Stories To Keep You Moving

Ironman Is Tough, Aging Is Tougher!
with Dr. Kevin T. Morgan

Dr. Kevin T. Morgan, veterinarian, and Ironman-distance triathlete in his 70s, learned a great deal from his athletic and body awareness training over the years. He also learned a great deal from finding his dangerously large aortic aneurysm, in 2010. He enjoys sharing valuable tips and tricks for healthy aging, while facing life’s challenges. These thoughts and observations are presented in the form of short stories from experiences on the family farms of England, in the 1970s, and a 40-year career as a research scientist in the fields of sheep diseases, drug and chemical safety, and Applied Mathematics.

As a scientific lecturer of many years, he soon learned that lectures don’t work. Stories do! We are a story telling species, thus the use of stories in his books and presentations. Each story is selected to provide a lesson of value, when it comes to dealing with our later years.

Born in Bristol, England, during World War II, in 1943, while bombs were dropping. I don’t remember the bombs, but I do remember playing on bombsites until I was about eleven. Qualified as a veterinarian from Bristol Veterinary School in 1967, three years in large animal (mainly dairy cows) practice on family farms. Five years at the sheep diseases research in Edinburgh from 1970 to 1975, PhD from Edinburgh University, in Neuropathology. A desire to study the French language took us to Geneva, Switzerland, where I entered the field of Toxicology. I continued this work, in ‘the science of poisons’ for 40 years, moving from one area to another, including Electron Microscopy, Histochemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Fluid Dynamics, and finally Applied Mathematics. Made one movie, during that time, on The Mucociliary Apparatus (it’s now on YouTube!). Left science, emotionally, during an invited lecture, about about the time I found that aortic aneurysm (that movie is on YouTube, too), and decided to start a business. And here I am, still enjoying life. Oh! Three kids, seven grandkids, and I still enjoy Ironman, though it gets tougher every year.

The 20 Nawales and the 99 Beautiful Names: A Maya/Sufi Journey

Join with me on a journey uniting Mayan and Sufi wisdom; these two wisdom streams have great synchrony. You will learn about the twenty protective energies of the sacred Mayan Calendar, the Tzolkin, and how to use them as a daily guide along the Sac Be, or Sacred Path. Being in alignment with this calendar, using Sufi practices of meditation, contemplation, reflection, chanting and breath practices, keeps you in alignment with Divine Energy.

I have been a “day keeper” for more than five years, and have gained much wisdom and tranquility through uniting my spiritual practices with the wisdom of this sacred calendar. I received two Mayan shamanic ceremonies in Guatemala, and attended the celebration of the new era, The Fifth Sun, on December 21, 2012. We can help birth this new era of 5,200 years which aligns masculine and feminine energies, creating a major shift in evolution the likes of which have never before been seen. It is up to us to align with this new energy and co-create our transformative future. Being in alignment with this calendar can help in this exciting new adventure.

Sound, Breath and Meditation Workshop
With Dante Baker, 200 Hour RYT

Experience sounds from the Tibetan and modern crystal bowl during the breathing exercises and meditation to re-harmonize the entire body. Allow the sound vibrations to soothe the mind, clear any blockages within the body and guide you into the present moment.

All levels of practitioners are welcome to deepen their understanding, heighten their awareness and strengthen application of meditation and breathing exercises while using Tibetan Singing and Modern Singing Bowls. Discover how controlled breathing not only keeps the mind and body functioning optimally, but it will also lower blood pressure, promote a calm and relaxing mind-set and help students de-stress.

Different Meditation techniques can relax the body while keeping the mind singularly focused. When this is done regularly, a deep sense of inner peace, mental clarity and tranquility is cultivated with the practitioner.

Throughout history many ancient civilizations and cultures have used crystals and stones for a numerous purposes such as healing, meditating, activating and strengthening psychic abilities. Within the last century, modern society has discovered, and continues to discover, the powerful and healing effects the singing bowls can produce with the backing of science. The quality of the materials and the structure of these bowls are highly important as these two foundations are what produce the harmonic sounds; while Tibetan bowls are made of brass and copper, crystal bowls are formed from mostly pure crushed quartz and heated in high boiling temperature in a centrifugal shape. The sounds that are created when the bowls are struck with a mallet, release a powerful and potent sound vibration, with the larger bowls creating a deeper and longer reverberation due to the size and amount of crystal used. Each bowl is tested with digital technology to identify its unique sound, with each sound corresponding to a particular note, similar to notes of a piano.

Dante Baker has been a native to the Washington DC area his entire life, growing up in Reston, VA. Since his childhood years, Dante has always had a fascination with the human anatomy and all of its abilities to heal, move, and process. This interest led Dante to studying and receiving certifications through AFAA and NASM in 2007. As he pursued personal training he worked with wide a range of clients such as over-weight clients, young athletes and elderly adults. As he gained more experience and confidence in his teaching he extended his expertise to larger classes such as boot camp, athletic conditioning, kids physical education, kickboxing and body pump.

Dante personally trains and sees private clients for massage, physical exercise and Reiki, teaches meditation, yoga, qi gong classes, performs crystal and Tibetan Sound Concerts. His personal philosophy is that the body has an innate wisdom within itself and the tools and services he provides, allows the body to perform the healing that it knows how to do.

Inner Worlds/Outer Worlds

This is a beautiful, peace-inducing video journey into remembering we are all much more than just a physical body encapsulating our egos and that a Divine intelligent pattern is designed into both our inner and outer worlds.

There is one vibratory source that connects all things. It has been called Akasha, the primordial OM, the music of the sphere, Indra’s net of jewels, and a thousand other names throughout history. The ancient teachers taught Nada Brahma; the universe is vibration. The vibratory field is at the root of all true spiritual experience and scientific investigation. It is the same field of energy that yogis, mystics, saints, Buddhas, shamans and seers has observed by looking within themselves.

Many of history’s monumental thinkers such as Pythagoras, Tesla, Einstein, Kepler, and Leonardo DaVinci, have come to the threshold of this mystery. In today’s society most of humanity has lost this ancient wisdom. We have strayed too far into the realm of thinking, and lost our connection to our inner worlds. This balance- what the Buddha called the middle way, what the Taoists called the balance of Yin and Yang, is the birthright of every human being. It is the common root of all sciences and all religions, and the link between our inner and outer worlds. International version includes narration in English, French, Spanish, German, and Hindi. Subtitles in English, French, Spanish, German, Hindi, Polish and Swedish.
