Reinventing Ourselves: The Next Blessed Chapter
with Robert Roskind

In today’s fast changing environments we are being called on to constantly learn and grow and to often go through life-changing events that cause us to have to reinvent ourselves. Sometimes these events are pleasurable like a spiritual awakening, the birth of a child, meeting a mate, beginning your life work. Other times they are painful involving a physical, financial, spiritual, or relationship “crisis.” In either case, these are the milestone markers on our path – in fact they are our path – and they are all for our highest good. As a veteran of countless, reinventions, Robert will discuss how to navigate these life changes with calm and clarity – no matter how intense they might appear.

Robert Roskind is the author of twelve books including Rasta Heart: A Journey into One Love, The Beauty Path: A Native American Journey into One Love, The Gathering of the Healers, In the Spirit of Marriage and In the Spirit of Business. He is also the producer of a record-breaking PBS series and the organizer of over 200 One Love Events in the U.S. and Jamaica. He lives in Carrboro and operates the Oasis.

Inner Worlds/Outer Worlds
(encore on August 18)

This is a beautiful, peace-inducing video journey into remembering we are all much more than just a physical body encapsulating our egos and that a Divine intelligent pattern is designed into both our inner and outer worlds.

There is one vibratory source that connects all things. It has been called Akasha, the primordial OM, the music of the sphere, Indra’s net of jewels, and a thousand other names throughout history. The ancient teachers taught Nada Brahma; the universe is vibration. The vibratory field is at the root of all true spiritual experience and scientific investigation.

It is the same field of energy that yogis, mystics, saints, Buddhas, shamans and seers has observed by looking within themselves. Many of history’s monumental thinkers such as Pythagoras, Tesla, Einstein, Kepler, and Leonardo DaVinci, have come to the threshold of this mystery. In today’s society most of humanity has lost this ancient wisdom. We have strayed too far into the realm of thinking, and lost our connection to our inner worlds.

This balance- what the Buddha called the middle way, what the Taoists called the balance of Yin and Yang, is the birthright of every human being. It is the common root of all sciences and all religions, and the link between our inner and outer worlds. International version includes narration in English, French, Spanish, German, and Hindi. Subtitles in English, French, Spanish, German, Hindi, Polish and Swedish.

CLIMATE DESTABILIZATION: OUR LONG SLOW EMERGENCY

VIDEO & DISCUSSION NIGHT ~ 2nd Sunday of each month, 6:30-8:30pm

We are at a crossroads in our history. We are on the precipice of destroying our habitat, the very earth that gives us sustenance and supports life. Our multiple challenges of climate change, deforestation, overgrazing, fisheries collapse, food insecurity, and the rapid extinction of species are all part of a single, over-arching problem: Humanity has overshot the carrying capacity of the Earth.

Join with others willing to honestly face our situation and have the most important discussion of our lives: how we pull out of our ecological nosedive and transition to a life-affirming global culture, an earth community of sustainability, justice, and peace!

We show a different video each session and discuss a range of important issues and options to address them. For detailed information on each session, see https://betseydowning.com/upcoming-events/ . Information will be posted 5-6 days prior to the event.

PRACTICES AND ACTIONS TO CREATE RESILIENCE ~ 4th Sunday of each month, 6:30-8:00pm

In these sessions we focus on creating resilience, both individually and in community. It includes personal practices such as deep breathing and meditation to calm and center ourselves, as well as actions we can take in our communities to adapt to the coming changes brought on by climate destabilization. Bring your comments, questions, ideas, and friends! Free! Open to all!  Presented by the Citizens Climate Collaborative: Betsey Downing, Tana Hartman Thorn, Dirk Kelder, and Jim Sander.

Monday September 9 700-800pm
The Communitarian Impulse: The history and future of how we satisfy the human need to connect.

The evening’s discussion will look at two American resurgences of utopian
exuberance: the hippie communes of the 1960s and 1970s and the much
earlier outburst of communal societies in the 19th century.

How can we understand the motivations behind these movements?
How have these movements been re-imagined in the modern world?
Are we succeeding more now than in the past? Join the discussion! Free! Come and share your own experiences. Hear about some intentional communities springing to life in the Triangle Area. All are welcome! Presentation by Hart’s Mill member Paul Voss.

The Shift with Wayne Dyer

Originally produced under the title, Ambition to Meaning. In this compelling film, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer explores the spiritual journey from ambition to meaning. The powerful shift from the ego constructs we are taught early in life by parents and society – which promote an emphasis on achievement and accumulation – are shown in contrast to a life of meaning, focused on serving and giving back. Through the intertwined stories of an overachieving businessman, a mother of two seeking her own expression in the world, and a director trying to make a name for himself, this entertaining film not only inspires, but also teaches us how to create a life of meaning and purpose.

About the Actor
Wayne W. Dyer, Ph.D., is an internationally renowned author and speaker in the field of self-development. He is the author of more than 30 books, has created numerous audio programs and videos, and has appeared on thousands of television and radio shows. Many of his books have been featured as National Public Television specials. Wayne holds a doctorate in educational counseling from Wayne State University and was an associate professor at St. Johns University in New York.

Never Dead Poets Society
(3rd Wednesday of every month, 7:00pm – 9:00pm)

John Keats (1795 – 1821), a poet, from the English Romantic Era was a main figure of the second generation of Romantic poets. He famously stated, “The poetry of the earth is never dead”.

My name is Rose Fields, I’m 27 years old and from the small town of Pikeville, here in NC. I lacked stability in my childhood and supplemented with reading and writing. Falling in love with poetry at a young age, I turned to it to connect and express. In return poetry allowed me to channel my feelings and redirect them in a healthy way. Poetry is a peaceful outlet for self-expression, in addition to, the processing of emotions. I often say, to write a poem is to have a conversation with one’s intrinsic, otherwise-neglected self. I wanted to create a safe place for young people to connect with one another and process through the more convoluted aspects of life. Thus, the Never Dead Poets Society was born! Whether you are a writer, a listener, or a reader, you are welcome to come join this group!

A typical meeting consists of reading, writing, and creating a prompt for the future meeting. This keeps all involved writing and processing through a collection of topics decided on and discussed throughout each meeting. Our group is not full of writers by trade, though we do have a few accomplished writers in the group. I, myself am a science major…if that helps you to feel more comfortable with your background. Everyone has the ability to write poetry! Although this group is centered on the collaborative experiences of young adults, anyone can come and participate! Please feel free to contact me with the email provided below with any further questions. Email: charleyfields.chapelhill@gmail.com
