A Guide for an Awakening Planet: A Joyous Journey into One Love
with Oasis founder Robert Roskind
By design, our planet is experiencing a quantum transformation. This book offers both the wisdom and the practical guidance needed to move from fear to love. Based on his personal 45-year spiritual journey and the stories and wisdom collected through his travels with various indigenous elders, including Hopi, Havasupai, Iroquois, Mayan, and Rasta Elders, Ros- kind has assembled the instructions on how to transform our lives from the mundane to the mystical.
While looking forward, this book also looks back to an age when societies were designed to bring out the best in their people while en- hancing their health and happiness, when people where taken care of from cradle to grave, leaders truly were the servants of the people, each person found their true calling and offered this to others, and life was sustainable for millennia. It was a time when everything was free and humans, like all other species, did not have to pay to live on the planet.
Robert Roskind is a writer, speaker and event organizer. His books include Rasta Heart: A Journey into One Love, Memoirs of an Ex-Hippie, In the Spirit of Marriage, and The Beauty Path: A Native American Journey into One Love. Along with his wife, Julia, he has organized over 170 free One Love Concerts and Events at schools, prisons, public venues, and Native American Reservations in the U.S., Guatemala and Jamaica. Every year his One Love Foundation hosts the Gathering of The Beauty Path: A Native American Journey into One Love.

VIDEO & DISCUSSION NIGHT ~ 6:30-8:30pm
We are at a crossroads in our history. We are on the precipice of destroying our habitat, the very earth that gives us sustenance and supports life. Our multiple challenges of climate change, deforestation, overgrazing, fisheries collapse, food insecurity, and the rapid extinction of species are all part of a single, over-arching problem: Humanity has overshot the carrying capacity of the Earth.
Join with others willing to honestly face our situation and have the most important discussion of our lives: how we pull out of our ecological nosedive and transition to a life-affirming global culture, an earth community of sustainability, justice, and peace!
We show a different video each session and discuss a range of important issues and options to address them. For detailed information on each session, see https://betseydowning.com/upcoming-events/ . Information will be posted 5-6 days prior to the event.
In these sessions we focus on creating resilience, both individually and in community. It includes personal practices such as deep breathing and meditation to calm and center ourselves, as well as actions we can take in our communities to adapt to the coming changes brought on by climate destabilization. Bring your comments, questions, ideas, and friends! Free! Open to all! Presented by the Citizens Climate Collaborative: Betsey Downing, Tana Hartman Thorn, Dirk Kelder, and Jim Sander.

Infusing Native American Values
Until they were invaded by European conquerors, all Native American societies were based on three truths – we are all One with our Creator, one with our brothers and sisters, and one with the Earth. From this mindset they created societies that brought out the best in humanity. They were co-operative and love-based. The mindset of the conquerors – a mindset that now dominates the planet – is the opposite and based on three lies – we are separate from our Creator, from all our brothers and sisters and from the Earth. This world perspective brings out the worst in us as leads to the fractured world we have been sent here to heal through our love. As we heal this misconception within our own minds and hearts, our lives enter a mystical stream of energy that is the inheritance of every human – lovingly given to us by the Great Spirit.
Robert Roskind is the author of twelve books including Rasta Heart: A Journey into One Love, The Beauty Path: A Native American Journey into One Love, The Gathering of the Healers, In the Spirit of Marriage and In the Spirit of Business. He is also the producer of a record-breaking PBS series and the organizer of over 200 One Love Events in the U.S. and Jamaica. He has worked closely with Hopi, Havasupai and Mayan Elders. He lives in Carrboro and operates the Oasis.

Staying Hopeful & Positive During the Coming Transition
with author and Oasis owner Robert Roskind
What did these “teachers of love” remember that we can also – and by doing so, change the world? Buddha (Buddhist), Jesus (Jewish), Gandhi (Hindu), MLK (Baptist), Bob Marley(Rasta), Mandela (Methodist), Mother Teresa (Catholic), Tutu (Anglican), Muhammed Ali (Muslim), Mister Rogers (ordained Presbyterian minister), and the Dalai lama (Tibet Buddhist). They remembered that a Loving Creator had sent them here to transform all the circumstances into which they were sent through love. And without political, economic or military power, they did.
They demonstrated that the power of love, when expressed through us, can overcome great obstacles. They are the way showers and now we manifesting hundreds of thousands of us, and soon millions, that are remembering and transforming the situations into which we are sent. This is how the world will be awakened. It was our Creator’s design all along that after a long and painful “detour into fear,” His/Her children would once again remember their own Divinity. All is on perfect Divine schedule – no matter how it may appear.
He lives in Carrboro and operates the Oasis.

Movies that Matter– “Becoming Nobody”
Becoming Nobody is the quintessential portal to Ram Dass’ life and teachings.
His ability to entertain and his sense of humor are abundantly evident in a conversation that brings us around to address the vast question of ultimate freedom.
Becoming Nobody represents the core arc of Ram Dass’ teachings and life: whether as Dr. Richard Alpert, the eminent Harvard psychologist, or as Ram Dass who serves as a bridge between Eastern and Western philosophies, he has defined a generation of inner explorers and seekers of truth and wisdom. Through his turns as scion of an eminent Jewish family from Boston, rock-star Harvard psychologist, counter-culture rascally adventurer, Eastern holy man, stroke survivor and compassionate caregiver, Ram Dass has worn many hats on his journey, the narrative of which is revealed in this film.
In Becoming Nobody, historic clips balance an engaging conversation with director Jamie Catto. We come to understand how our old roles and disguises become increasingly burdensome. The film captures a loving man full of joy, wit, honesty and wisdom, at ease in conversation while sharing his considerable pains and pleasures. The life experiences that have freed him from the attachments of his ‘somebody-ness’ have transformed him into the radiant soul who now inspires a new generation.

How to Train for Aging: The Ultimate Endurance Sport with Dr. Kevin Thomas Morgan
There are both destructive and creative forces at work in your life, aka Entropy and Syntropy (life force). The author wants you to become an athlete soldier, fighting with the power of Syntropy, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, against Entropy-induced decay. You are life!
Life is a fire that burns in a special way.
Life’s fire makes stuff.
Life is a dancing fire, a dance of joy.
Life is a fiery song.
Life is a thoughtful fire.
Life is a naysayer of flames.
Life is a warrior, burning with the power of Syntropy.
Life is an athlete, an endurance athlete.
Life has been beating back Entropy for eons.
You are that warrior, life.
You are that athlete, life.
Train to fight your Internal Enemy, Entropy.
Train to fight your External Enemy, Entropy.
Laugh and cry and dance as you do battle, as you compete in your personal game of life, in your fight to the life against Entropy.
The author agrees with Darwin, that, “It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, it’s those most adaptable to change.”
Aging will present you with many opportunities for change.

Close Encounters of the 5th Kind (CE-5)
Video and 20-minute Meditation
with Oasis founder Robert Roskind, author of A Guide for an Awakening Planet
CE-5 stands for Close Encounters of the Fifth kind which means that it is possible for us “humans” to invoke encounters with extraterrestrial life forms. It is what we call Human Initiated Contact. The term CE-5 was created by Dr. Steven Greer. He is the founder of the CSETI project and is the worlds most renowned researcher in regard to extraterrestrial life. Dr. Steven Greer has also been fighting for more than 20 years against the UFO secrecy that is being kept in place by many governments and against the military and industrial complex who want to keep the ET technology hidden from public because it would mean the end of our fossil fuel consumption as we know it.
Also, there will be several videos of Steven Greer and Grant Cameron with them discussing the Star People’s proven reality and how there are no “evil aliens,” only those who are assisting us in transforming our planet from fear to love and providing technology that will allow us a pollution-free, healthy future.

Never Dead Poets Society
John Keats (1795 – 1821), a poet, from the English Romantic Era was a main figure of the second generation of Romantic poets. He famously stated, “The poetry of the earth is never dead”.
My name is Rose Fields, I’m 27 years old and from the small town of Pikeville, here in NC. I lacked stability in my childhood and supplemented with reading and writing. Falling in love with poetry at a young age, I turned to it to connect and express. In return poetry allowed me to channel my feelings and redirect them in a healthy way. Poetry is a peaceful outlet for self-expression, in addition to, the processing of emotions. I often say, to write a poem is to have a conversation with one’s intrinsic, otherwise-neglected self. I wanted to create a safe place for young people to connect with one another and process through the more convoluted aspects of life. Thus, the Never Dead Poets Society was born! Whether you are a writer, a listener, or a reader, you are welcome to come join this group!
A typical meeting consists of reading, writing, and creating a prompt for the future meeting. This keeps all involved writing and processing through a collection of topics decided on and discussed throughout each meeting. Our group is not full of writers by trade, though we do have a few accomplished writers in the group. I, myself am a science major…if that helps you to feel more comfortable with your background. Everyone has the ability to write poetry! Although this group is centered on the collaborative experiences of young adults, anyone can come and participate! Please feel free to contact me with the email provided below with any further questions. Email: email@example.com

Memoirs of an Ex Hippie– a one man play
The counterculture of the 60s and 70s has been viewed as everything from naive to hedonistic. However, most of these views were formed by observing the movement from the outside. “Memoirs of an Ex-Hippie” offers a vastly different perspective, one developed from within. After graduating college in 1968, Robert Roskind hit the road for seven years. Roskind’s travels lead him into the heart of the counterculture–to Esalen Institute, Tassajara Hot Springs, Big Sur, Vancouver Island, the communes of Oregon and North Carolina, Altamont Pop Festival, Mt. Shasta, the Haight-Ashbury and the “motherland”–Northern California. His personal odyssey, sometimes profane and funny, sometimes profound and serious, reveals this tumultuous era as a cultural and spiritual renaissance that birthed many of the solutions to problems humanity now faces.
